Update You have to attach a 1kΩ resistor on the guitar jack in order to match the impedance with the iPhone’s. The problem is that without a preamp, the guitar sounds a little muffled, and you have some noise when you use distorsion pedals. I bought a used iPod AV cable, and converted it to a guitar cable with no hassle. I use Ampkit app, it works perfect as soon as it is open, huge volume.

The tech support were kind and I guess they’ll replace it.Īnyway… the problem is I REALLY WANT TO PLAY my guitar. I couldn’t play my guitar because it had a faulty cable. The Ampkit Link, which is supposed to be a battery powered preamplifier and impedance matcher, is actually great, but its build quality is desirable… way to desirable. Problem is those “interfaces” are quite pricey and hard to find – at least here in Romania. And you’re dying to connect your guitar to the iPhone and play some licks… So now there are a lot of iPhone apps like Ampkit or iRig that simulate guitar amps. Hope this helps, because not having tried acoustic with this setup, I'm just guessing.2 November / Connect your guitar to your iPhone If it's "acoustic" feedback as opposed to iRig crosstalk feedback, try inserting a virtual graphic EQ in the chain, after the amp sim, then use the EQ to duck the feeding frequencies. Īnyway, I have hot pickups, my iPad output is set to greater than 50%, etc., and I have been getting plenty of volume live without feedback issues. I know there IS an acoustic amp in the AmpKit lineup that might behave differently for you? I haven't tried it so. I imagine the resonance and feedback issues with an acoustic would be very different than with an electric. Sorry, I might not be able to help much, since I have only used electric guitar with this setup, not acoustic. Ive got an iRig and while Ive never used it for uke (or any acoustic instrument) I did not find it. I get great results on it at home but I do have to turn my sound system up quite loud to get the volume. Peavey AmpKit LiNK or AmpliTube iRig + ukulele. Is there ways of getting this right? Pleeeease help.

If I turn up I get feedback even if I adjust the input/output settings or feedback control. You use the ampkit with iRig live?! I've been trying to plug my acoustic guitar into iRig and through ampkit or amplitube to then go through a P.A and I get quiet sound. And it just sounds more "authentic" (to my ears). AmpKit nailed that for me, and has more variety in amp/stomp options. I just needed a good, solid, versatile virtual rig. I really don't need a 4 track recorder or whatever else they've got going on extra with AmpliTube. This means that you'll be able to perform at your best no matter whether you're connecting a wailing 3 humbucker electric guitar or a jazzy archtop to your iPhone. Overall, I like the amp sim features of AmpKit more than AmpliTube. With iRig 2, you get an input gain dial that gives you the power to ensure high-quality sound in every situation. Oh, with the "gainy" amp sims, make SURE you turn on the little red noise suppression button to avoid feedback. The other sims are great too, but those come to mind as ones that were very much worth the extra money to nail certain tones. My Metallica covers sound VERY authentic using this model, both clean and high-gain. Taos - this is their sim of a Mesa Dual-Rec, and I think it nails it. weakness? they should have put a verb in the amp sim, but I made up for it with a virtual verb pedal in the chain. I switch to that model, played, and immediately said to myself, "Yep, that's a Fender Twin alright.". Peavey Classic 30 (both clean and dirty channels) - good solid "bread and butter" cleans and a good solid "rock" dirty sound with some warmth.Īmerican Dual - their take on the Fender Twin. But remember: off-axis mic setting is the key.Ī few of my favorite amp models that I actually purchased:

You just have to be prepared to tweak and tune a little bit more. But by going in and moving the virtual mic off-axis, BAM, everything warmed up quite nicely!Īlso, now that I have my "bread and butter" tones set up, I've been using AmpKit on my iPad for actual live gigging.Īnd you know what? It sounds GREAT. One issue is, by default, AmpKit has the mic sim set at on-axis. As far as the programs, it depends on what you like. Ampkit Link has a longer cord, less prone to feedback, works well with Amplitube, but feels pretty cheap (I already broke one). IMHO, while the default "out of the box" presets of AmpliTube sound less harsh than the ones in AmpKit, once I experimented with both apps significantly, I decided I liked the overall results I was getting from AmpKit better than AmpliTube. As far as the actual interfaces go, iRig is simple and sturdy, but doesn't play well with Ampkit because of crosstalk (haven't tried with other apps myself).

I own the iRig adapter and full versions of both apps.
